About Saddlebreds
America’s national breed, the Saddlebred ,was developed in the
days of the great plantations. The bred was developed using
descendants of horses taken from England during early pioneering
days, which were the valued riding horses. The breeds became
formalized in USA as the Narragansett Pacer. At later period, blood of the Thoroughbred was imported to the Americas
. As a result, the American Saddlebred is
unique among gaited breeds with an inheritance from a very strong
trot via the Throughbred, plus retaining natural ambling gaits
from the amblers. His heritage flows from uniquely
English : two ancestral breeds came from Great Britain.
One , 'the ambler', has become extinct. As a result, the American
Saddlebred stands 15hh-17hh ;the coat can be found in all colors. The glistening Chestnut
predominates. Often with flaxen manes and tails added to the eye catching silhouette. This all-around horse is excellent for
showing dressage, jumping, endurance, circus, family utility, driving.
The American Saddlebred has a high arched neck, superb flexion,
deeply sloping shoulder, elegant limbs and a very long tail.
